Stubborn fat can be difficult to remove with diet and exercise alone, especially when it is present in smaller areas like under the chin. Dr. Weider can perform liposuction under the chin to improve your chin and jawline contour.

What is Liposuction Under the Chin?
Liposuction under the chin is a surgical procedure to remove stubborn fat causing the appearance of a “double chin.” As we age, many people are bothered by some fullness under the chin or a “double chin.” In many cases, submental liposuction, or liposuction under the chin, can greatly enhance the appearance of the chin and neckline. Removal of even small amounts of fat from this area can create a dramatic difference in the contour of the jawline and neck. It is often combined with other procedures such as facelift, rhinoplasty, or eyelid lift to achieve a more balanced appearance.

Who can Benefit from Liposuction Under the Chin?
Those who are bothered by stubborn fat under the chin can benefit from liposuction to recontour this area. The chin and neck can be difficult to tone with exercise. Liposuction can help you achieve a slimmer-looking jawline and neckline. The best candidates will already be in their healthy weight range but are struggling to remove the last bit of stubborn fat below the chin. Liposuction will effectively remove stubborn fat, but if loose skin and tissue are causing your concerns, Dr. Weider might recommend a neck lift instead. The two procedures can also be combined if your concerns are caused by both stubborn fat and loose skin and tissue.
Submental (Under Chin) Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction under the chin can be performed under general anesthesia if done in conjunction with other procedures or under light sedation (twilight anesthesia). Very small (micro) liposuction cannulas are inserted through very small incisions made under the chin. The cannula can then be inserted and gently moved in a back and forth motion to break up the fat cells, using gentle suction to remove them.
Aftercare for Liposuction Under the Chin
During the first few days after surgery, Dr. Weider will instruct you to wear a compression garment in order to achieve maximal improvement. During this time, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. Dr. Weider will instruct you to avoid strenuous physical activity during this time. The initial recovery period is about one week. However, the final result is often not achieved for several weeks once the swelling has resolved. After this time, patients can enjoy their improved chin contour and a defined jawline. The best way to ensure long-lasting results is to maintain a healthy weight through proper diet and exercise.
