What is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is considered by patients who desire fuller lips. As we age the lips frequently atrophy which can produce a stern, more serious expression. Lip enhancement can be performed on its own or in conjunction with other techniques to bring about a fresher more youthful appearance. Lip augmentation can be performed by a variety of techniques. They can be divided into those that involve injecting a substance to fill out the lips (injectables) and techniques that involve placement of a solid substance within the lips to augment them (implantables). Dr. Weider prefers the Surgisil lip implant due to its soft feel and natural appearance. More information is available at www.surgisil.com.
"Dr weider is a very talented doctor and his office staff is fantastic. My wife and friends have been to him for various things. One of them had a facial laceration from falling with a wine glass that was pretty big and he did a great job on that too." Read More >
Who can Benefit from Lip Augmentation?
Candidates for lip enhancement are those who are unhappy with thin or asymmetrical lips. This can be due to genetics or changes to lip volume with age. Those that are not ready for surgery with permanent results are great candidates for lip injections, using dermal filler or a fat transfer to add subtle volume and shape to the lips. Those who want permanently plump lips may be candidates for a lip surgery with implants. Dr. Weider will discuss your concerns and goals to determine which technique is best for you.
The Lip Augmentation Process
The lip augmentation process will involve one of two techniques:
Lip Augmentation with Implants
For a lip augmentation with implants, Dr. Weider will use local anesthesia for your comfort. A small incision will then be made within the mouth for completely hidden scarring. Through this incision, a small implant will then be placed.
Lip Augmentation with injectables
To augment the lips with injectables or a fat transfer, Dr. Weider will make several small injections into the lips. This will allow for instant volume with no incision or downtime required.
Aftercare for Lip Augmentation
After lip augmentation with implants, patients can expect the lips to be swollen and bruised for several days. Mouth movement should be limited, and Dr. Weider may recommend a liquid diet for several days. Avoid excessively hot foods and beverages while healing. If you had lip augmentation with an injectable filler, there is no recovery time, however, some swelling and redness at the injection sites can be expected for several days.
