What is Labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size and length of the labia minora. The goal of the procedure is to achieve labia that do not extend past the larger labia majora. The labiaplasty is the most commonly performed vaginal rejuvenation procedure, relieving the discomfort associated with overly long labia.

Who can Benefit from a Labiaplasty?
Women who were born with long labia minora or experience elongated labia minora after childbirth can benefit from a labiaplasty. While there is no “normal” length that the labia should be, many women find overly long labia uncomfortable during sexual activity or while wearing tight clothing. Others may choose the labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons alone to increase their confidence.
The Labiaplasty Surgery
Dr. Weider performs the labiaplasty procedure using general anesthesia. There are two main techniques to reduce the size of the labia. During a trim technique, the outer edge of the labia is removed to shorten the length. This can also address irregular border colors. The wedge technique is also common and involves taking a pie-shaped wedge of tissue from the labia, and bringing the incisions together. Incisions are closed with absorbable sutures.
Aftercare for Labiaplasty
Most patients take about a week off work to recover after labiaplasty. During this time, you can expect some swelling and general discomfort. This can be controlled with pain medication and an ice pack. When icing the area. you should always have undergarments kept between the skin and the ice. Follow the “twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off” rule to protect the skin. Lying with your bottom elevated can also help to reduce swelling. Patients should avoid physical activity for several weeks and avoid tampon use or sexual intercourse for up to six weeks. Dr. Weider will provide a more detailed recovery timeline as well as aftercare instructions, depending on the techniques used during your procedure.
