A study performed by Dr. Charles Soparkar (my wife did some training with him) at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX, shows that taking organic zinc plus the enzyme phytase for four days prior to receiving Botox injections made the toxin 93% more effective. The result of the research is a patent-pending supplement of zinc and phytase to be trademarked as ZYTAZE™ which may be available as early as this month. Although many of the patients in the study were treated for a rare form of eyelid spasm, this bodes well for those getting Botox for cosmetic reasons.
“Surprisingly, the results showed that in over 90% of the patients studied, the zinc/phytase combination resulted in a remarkable improved responsiveness to treatment of blepharospasm using the same amount of botulinum toxin as previously used,” said Soparkar, M.D., Ph.D., an oculoplastic surgeon at The Methodist Hospital. “The toxins seemed to have greater effect and last longer. Potentially, this could mean using less toxin, offering patients financial savings, greater safety, and more consistent results.” ZYTAZE is licensed to OCuSOFT, Inc., a company focused on ophthalmic research, development and patient care. It will be available by prescription.
We’ll let you know when this becomes available here in Dallas.
