EAR SURGERY

Dr. Weider performs ear reshaping to produce a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. The time required for ear reshaping may be one or more hours, depending upon the extent of the procedure. During ear surgery, Dr. Weider may use general anesthesia or sedation agents and local anesthesia to perform the procedure. The procedure is usually performed in our fully certified operating room or in a local Dallas surgery center.

During ear reshaping surgery, Dr. Weider usually creates incisions hidden behind the back side of the ears to perform the procedure. During otoplasty, Dr. Weider will typically use internal sutures to reshape the ears and may remove excess ear cartilage to allow for adequate reshaping. The precise technique used in the procedure depends upon a variety of factors, including: the anatomy of the ears and patient goals. At the end of the procedure, a head wrap dressing is placed around the head to cover the ears.

AFTERCARE FOR EAR SURGERY

Dr. Weider will see you in the first few days following the procedure, and most people return to work within one week following the surgery. During recovery, you will be provided with guidelines for activity restrictions and discomfort management, including medications to ease discomfort. As with all medical procedures, complications may occur during or after the procedure. The guidelines provided by Dr. Weider help to reduce the risk of complications. Complications are rare and can usually be managed by Dr. Weider. Complications may include: adverse anesthesia reaction, excessive bleeding, and slight asymmetry of the ears. You may experience swelling, bruising, bleeding and numbness following surgery which subside over time.

The results of the procedure will be visible within days and usually last a lifetime.  The longevity of results may be affected by aging, poor lifestyle habits, medical conditions and the use of certain drugs.  Ear reshaping can provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance to the entire face. Dr. Weider’s patients often experience a renewed sense of self-confidence following ear reshaping surgery.
