THE SURGERY
Dr. Weider performs eyelid surgery to redefine eyelids for a natural, youthful appearance. The time required for eyelid surgery may be one or more hours, depending on the extent of the procedure. During eyelid surgery, Dr. Weider may create an incision on the inside of the lower lid, which will leave no visible scar, and/or in the upper eyelid creases. Then he will remove excess skin and fat and tighten muscle, if necessary. Finally, he will suture the incisions together.
AFTERCARE FOR EYELID SURGERY
Dr. Weider will see you within the first few days following the procedure to help ensure a smooth recovery. You will be provided with guidelines for activity restrictions and discomfort management, including medications to ease pain. You will receive patient comfort tips such as soaking gauze pads in ice chips so they may be applied to the eyes for greater comfort.
As with all medical procedures, complications may occur during or after the procedure. The guidelines provided by Dr. Weider help to reduce the risk of complications. For example, smoking increases the risk of poor healing. Dr. Weider will advise you to stop smoking for four to six weeks prior to and after the procedure. You may experience swelling, bruising, bleeding and numbness following surgery, which subside over time. Complications are rare and can usually be managed by Dr. Weider. Complications may include: adverse anesthesia reaction, excessive bleeding, asymmetry between the eyes, and inability to fully close the eyes (usually temporary).
Most people return to work within one week to ten days following the procedure. At that time, the results of the procedure will be evident and may last a lifetime. Of course, the longevity of the procedure may be affected by aging, poor lifestyle habits, skincare regimen, medical conditions and the use of certain drugs. If you decide to select the procedure for the upper eyelid, lower eyelid or both eyelids, the surgery will most certainly provide rejuvenation for many years to follow.
