Liposuction Under Chin (Submental)

As we age, many people are bothered by some fullness under the chin or a “double chin.” In many cases, submental liposuction, or liposuction under the chin, can greatly enhance the appearance of the chin and neckline. Removal of even small amounts of fat from this area can create a dramatic difference in the contour of the jawline and neck. It is often combined with other procedures such as facelift, rhinoplasty, or eyelid lift to achieve a more balanced appearance.

Procedure and Recovery

The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia if done in conjunction with other procedures or under light sedation (twilight anesthesia). Very small (micro) liposuction cannulas are inserted through very small incisions. During the first few days after surgery, Dr. Weider will instruct you to wear a compression garment in order to achieve maximal improvement. The initial recovery period is about 1 week. However, the final result is often not achieved for several weeks once the swelling has resolved.
