Using Your Own Fat For Natural Beauty Enhancement

Fat Transfer, also known as fat grafting, is one of the most exciting areas in plastic surgery today.  Fat grafting is the use of one’s own fat that has been removed by liposuction to augment other areas of the body.  While this technique is not new, improvements in equipment and technique have made it more reliable with predictable and long lasting results.  The most commonly used areas for fat transfer are the face, breast and buttocks, however the technique can be used for just about any area that needs a little or a lot of augmentation.  Highlighted below are some of the most common applications of the procedure.

BREASTS

For individuals desiring a rounder, fuller buttocks, fat transfer is often the best option.  It is often combined with liposuction of adjacent problem areas (lower back, flanks, thighs) to provide a dramatic improvement in the shape and appearance of the entire area.  This is sometimes referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift.

FACE

As we age there is atrophy of the soft tissues of the face as well as of the bone (facial skeleton).  While facelifts and other skin tightening procedures play an important role in reversing the signs of aging, filling the soft tissues is often just as important to regain a more youthful appearance.  This can be done with many substances, but fat is the most versatile and the longest lasting.  It can be used to fill out the cheeks, hollows below the eyes, temples, brow area and the lips.  The jaw line can also be accentuated. An added benefit is that fat transfer to the face often improves the appearance of the overlying skin.
