Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
This procedure is performed to improve the most visible signs
of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying facial
muscles and redraping the skin of the face and neck. A facelift
can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial
procedures. The best candidates for a facelift is a man or
woman whose facial and neck skin have begun to sag, but whose
skin still has some elasticity and whose underlying bone structure
is strong and well-defined. While a facelift can make you
look younger and fresher boosting your self-confidence, it
can't give you a totally different look.
As with any procedure, complications can occur. They are
usually minor or temporary. Dr. Weider will discuss these
with you during your consultation. Smoking greatly increases
the possibility of developing a wound healing problem. Be
sure to discuss any history of smoking with Dr. Weider. In
addition make sure to inform the doctor about any use of herbal
or diet medications as these seemingly innocuous medications
can lead to problems during or after surgery.
During your consultation, Dr. Weider will explain the techniques
and anesthesia he would recommend, the type of facility where
the surgery would be performed, and the risks and costs involved.
Don't hesitate to ask him any questions you may have.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure
to remove fat--usually along with excess skin and muscle from
the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping
upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that
make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may
even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove
crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under
your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.
Blepharoplasty usually takes one to three hours, depending
on the extent of the surgery. In a typical procedure, the surgeon
makes incisions following the natural lines of your eyelids;
in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes
in the lower lids. The incisions may extend into the crow's
feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working
through these incisions, the surgeon separates the skin from
underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removes excess fat, and
often trims sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are then
closed with very fine sutures.
If you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids but don't
need to have any skin removed, Dr. Weider may perform a transconjunctival
blepharoplasty. In this procedure the incision is made inside
your lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. It is usually performed
on younger patients with thicker, more elastic skin.

Browlift (forehead lift)
A forehead lift or "browlift" is a procedure that
restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the
eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the
horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry,
sad or tired.
In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing
or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise
the eyebrows and minimize frown lines. Your surgeon may use
the conventional surgical method, in which the incision is hidden
just behind the hairline; or it may be performed with the use
of an endoscope, a viewing instrument that allows the procedure
to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques yield
similar results -- smoother forehead skin and a more animated
appearance.

Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the
most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can
reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of
the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change
the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also
correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing
problems.
The best candidates for rhinoplasty are people who are looking
for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you're
physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in
your expectations, you may be a good candidate.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Weider will ask what you'd
like your nose to look like, evaluate the structure of your
nose and face, and discuss the possibilities with you. He will
also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and
the results. These factors include the structure of your nasal
bones and cartilage, the shape of your face, the thickness of
your skin, your age, and your expectations.
Rhinoplasty usually take about two hours, though complicated
procedures may take longer.
During surgery the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting
framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the
desired shape. The nature of the sculpting will depend on your
problem and your surgeon's preferred technique. Finally, the
skin is redraped over the new framework.
When the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to help
your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic
splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the
septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.

Lip Enhancement
Lip enhancement (augmentation) is considered by patients who
desire fuller lips. As we age the lips frequently atrophy which
can produce a stern, more serious expression. Lip enhancement
can be performed on its own or in conjunction with other techniques
to bring about a fresher more youthful appearance. Lip enhancement
can be performed by a variety of techniques. They can be divided
into those that involve injecting a substance to fill out the
lips (injectables) and techniques that involve placement of
a solid substance within the lips to augment them (implantables).
Both techniques can be performed using the patient's own tissue
or tissue from a variety of other sources. Most of these procedures
can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. During
your consultation, Dr Weider will discuss your goals and describe
the various treatment options available to you as well as their
advantages and drawbacks.
Botox ® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin type A)
Botox has received a lot of press lately as it was recently
approved for use by the FDA to treat glabellar (brow) wrinkles.
In fact, Botox has been used widely for over twelve years
to treat a variety of conditions caused by hyperactive muscle
activity. Botox works by blocking the release of acetylcholine,
the subtance that stimulates muscles to contract. Used in
very small doses and injected precisely, Botox can temporarily
deactivate the muscle that cause wrinkles above and between
the eyebrows, across the forehead and adjacent to the eyes
(crow's feet).
The procedure is performed in the office and there is no downtime.
The effect lasts three to four months and possibly longer with
regular use. Side effects are rare and will be reviewed with
you by Dr. Weider during your consultation. For more information:
